MIIT introduces new Network Access License (NAL) mark

On 29 June 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China released a new Notice No. 79 [2003] on the implementation of the new Network Access License (NAL) mark for Telecommunications equipment, which will gradually replace the original paper mark issued by MIIT.

The new NAL mark includes these elements: Logo, 4 Chinese Characters (either “进网许可” or “进网试用”), Model Number of the equipment, 21-digit Codes, Color in shading background (no shading background if in black and white).

Manufacturers shall obtain MIIT approval before using the new mark by ways of submitting the design and use plan of the new mark to the Certification Center. They may adopt one or more methods for the new mark such as electronic display, physical print, label sticker or others that meet the requirements.

The new mark came into force on 1 July 2023. Manufacturers may apply to use either the new mark or to use the original paper mark until 31 December 2023. Starting 1 January 2024, only the new NAL mark shall be used. Previously issued paper markings are still valid and can be used until their certificates expire.
