CNCA's Announcement No. 3 of 2024: Revised Testing Methods for Qualification Assessment System Restricting Harmful Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products

On 2 January 2024, the Chinese Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) issued Announcement No. 3 of 2024: Revised Testing Methods for Qualification Assessment System Restricting Harmful Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products.

To align with international standards for testing harmful substances in electrical and electronic products, enhance supply chain efficiency, and facilitate trade, the testing methods standard for the qualification assessment system limiting the use of harmful substances in these products is being adjusted. The shift is from GB/T 26125, which determines six restricted substances (Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent Chromium, Polybrominated Biphenyls, and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) in Electronic and Electrical Products, to a series of 8 standards known as the GB/T 39560 series standards. These include GB/T 39560.1, GB/T 39560.2, GB/T 39560.301, GB/T 39560.4, GB/T 39560.5, GB/T 39560.6, GB/T 39560.701, and GB/T 39560.702. The following requirements apply:

  • Starting March 1, 2024, testing methods for qualifying harmful substance restrictions in electrical and electronic products will follow the GB/T 39560 series standards.
  • For assessments completed under GB/T 26125 before March 1, 2024, a natural transition will occur through processes such as certificate renewal or product changes upon expiration.
  • Products manufactured or imported before March 1, 2024, are not required to undergo standard conversion.
