Telecommunications equipment

The Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones (ENACOM)** serves as the regulatory authority for telecommunications in Argentina. ENACOM mandates that all telecommunications equipment connecting to the public network, including radio transmitters, receive approval. This approval is required for most telecommunication line terminal equipment. Devices utilizing technologies such as Radio Frequency, Cellular, or Satellite must obtain ENACOM type approval and certification to be marketed in Argentina. Typically, most products must undergo testing within Argentina, with one to three samples required, depending on the device. Modular and system approvals may be available based on the specific characteristics of the equipment. Generally, the approval process necessitates local testing and a representative applicant from Argentina. Compliance International can assist in navigating the ENACOM approval process, helping you understand the regulatory requirements and complete the necessary steps for your telecommunications equipment in Argentina.

Safety

Certain products must also secure Safety Approval and Certification in Argentina. Depending on the electrical properties of your product, the following safety certifications may be required: Formula C Certification (S-Mark) Formula B Certification (Highly Specialized Equipment) IRAM Certification (Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación) For assistance in obtaining the necessary telecom and safety approvals in Argentina, please contact us.

Wireless and radio equipment

ENACOM, the telecommunications regulatory agency in Argentina, requires approval of all radio transmitters. This includes mobile (GSM or CDMA) handsets, wireless LAN (WLAN) equipment such as Wi-Fi devices, Bluetooth devices, Zigbee devices, WiMAX devices, RFID equipment, contactless card readers, and all other products that incorporate any kind of RF transmitter. Approval generally requires in-country testing and a local Argentinian applicant.

ITE

ENACOM defines non-telecom ITE as any information technology equipment -- essentially any device with a microprocessor -- that has no telecommunications or radio interface. This includes products such as computer printers and monitors, as well as many types of local area network (LAN) equipment.

Certain ITE products require Safety Approval and Certification in Argentina. Depending on the electrical characteristics of your product, the following safety requirements may apply: Formula C Certification (S-Mark) Formula B Certification (High Specialized Equipment) IRAM Certification (Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación).

Safety

All electric and electronic products to be sold in the domestic market need to be safety certified under IRAM (Instituto Argentino de Normalización y Certificación) or the international IEC standards. The S-Mark Certification Scheme is the product safety approval to be obtained for ITE and specified consumer electronics products. Equipment required for safety certification: The electrical equipment to be used with a nominal input voltage, for consumer material, and / or output, for generating material between 50 V and1,000 V. in alternating current, and between 75 V and 1,500 V in direct current, as well as chargers and transformers that operate in the same imput/output voltages.
