BSMI to Require Testing Above 1GHz
Currently, for products required to be tested against Taiwan's ITE standard for EMC (CNS 13438), radiated emissions above 1GHz and conducted emissions at telecommunications ports are not tested.
However, Taiwan's Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) has announced that on 1 October 2010, new EMC requirements will come into effect for products subject to CNS 13438. Any products with internal emissions sources with a frequency up to or including 108MHz or featuring telecommunication ports will now have to comply with limits on radiated emissions above 1GHz and conducted emissions on telecommunications ports.
Registration or approval applications submitted to BSMI after the effective date of this change must include CNS 13438 test results that meet the new requirements. Existing valid certificates issued prior to the change will continue to be valid until they expire, as long as the product is not modified.
There are also provisions specific to series models added to an existing certificate.
For products subject to the new requirements and declared under the BSMI DoC regime, the effective date for these new requirements will trigger a requirement to test again to the new requirements and re-issue DoC(s).
Compliance International recommends that beginning immediately EMC testing for any products destined for the Taiwan market include the new requirements. BSMI will accept applications with test results to the new requirements even prior to the effective date of the new requirements.
